He started the hungerstrike to protest his detention and the refusal of the Palestinian Authority to implement the decision of the High Court to release him. He asked for a meeting with a representative of the Palestinian Authority to discuss his detention and has said that he will then decide whether to stop his hungerstrike or to continue. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Palestinian General Intelligence Service arrested Ahmad Sa&#8217;adat, the secretary-general of the PFLP, on January 15. Ahmad Sa&#8217;adat was then transferred to the headquarters of the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah. On June 3, 2002, the Palestinian High Court ordered the release of Ahmad Sa&#8217;adat as he had never been charged or brought before a judge. On June 4, the Palestinian Authority decided that Ahmad Sa&#8217;adat should not be released &#8216;due to Israeli threats of assassinating Sa&#8217;adat&#8217;.
